BACK TO SCHOOL

Updated: Dec 21, 2022

Hello, friends!

I love the back-to-school season. There's something about blank notebooks, freshly sharpened pencils with fully intact erasers, and the smell of new books that create a buzz in the air. It's the possibilities that come with deepening my knowledge and learning something new. With the days of summer dwindling I know it's time for me to enter a new season of learning and discovery.

My school days are over, so the work is different now. There are four months left in the year, and I'm led to reflect on the initial goals I set in January, to in some sense take myself back to school.

Do my goals still align with who I am and who I want to be?

Are they a part of the vision I have for my life?

If so, am I giving them the energy and resources necessary to make them a reality?

Are there any edits I want to make to my goals?

Who should I ask for help?

Writing is something I've always wanted to do more of, and if you've been around me at all over the last twenty years you might have read something I've written. Writing aligns with who I am, the stillness and introspection it requires, the creative expressions of trying to tell the truth of what it's like to be alive. It aligns with one of my core values (Engaging Others) and it's part of the work I want to do as a coach. For too long I've been a writer who doesn't write. One of my goals for this year was to have one writing published, but that's difficult to do when you're not writing. So I'm using the shift of seasons to center myself back on that goal, beginning with writing every day.

On my refrigerator is a chart with the headline HOW I WILL BE A WRITER THIS WEEK in all caps. Each day of the week has a time commitment plus when and where I'll be doing my writing. Want to know if it's working? Well, you're reading this, so that should be proof enough. And there will be more to read each week, because I want to live my life on purpose, doing what is important to me and for others.

Now is a perfect time to re-invest in yourself, to reset, to take count of where you are in this trip around the sun, and to commit yourself to choosing the life you want to live. If you need help, I'm here. That's what I do as a coach. I have room on my client roster and am still offering certification rates. Even if you're curious, just book a sample session on my site to experience how coaching can help you. I know the regret the end of the year brings when we look back and wish we'd done things differently, knowing we could be choosing our lives instead of them happening to us. I don't want that for me or you. However you do it, take yourself back to school.
